Martine Passier
Martine is the Managing Director of bureau Brandeis. In addition, she works as a Legal Counsel within the Privacy & AI practice.
Martine is an experienced privacy lawyer with a background in intellectual property and media law. After completing her Master’s degree in Dutch Law at the University of Amsterdam and an LL.M. programme at Columbia University in New York, she worked as an attorney at Baker McKenzie and subsequently at Allen & Overy, specialising in corporate law and intellectual property law. Her passion for privacy law began while completing the Grotius postgraduate specialisation programme in Privacy Law.
Throughout her career as a business mediator, in-house legal counsel, and entrepreneur, Martine gained extensive insight into how organisations operate and developed a strong understanding of the importance of identifying the underlying motivations of all stakeholders. This approach is essential not only for successfully negotiating agreements, but also for securing support for organisational change and creating lasting commitment. In her experience, this is often the key to success.
In her most recent role as Data Protection Officer within the media sector, Martine was responsible not only for overseeing compliance but also for establishing a mature privacy office. Developing and embedding the privacy function within a media organisation—at a time when rapid technological developments and artificial intelligence are making the protection of the fundamental right to privacy increasingly complex—required a high degree of organisational awareness, tact, and perseverance.
As Managing Director, Martine is a member of the Executive Board of bureau Brandeis.
Outside of work, Martine is a passionate long-distance runner.
